In order to help people belonging to this regions to enhance the cooperation between their countries and with international organizations, distinguished representatives of civil society, scientific researchers, academics and diplomats decided to establish an organism that would be an alternative to the rigidity of the official high level relations and to pledge for people-to-people contacts and the dialogue between experts in various fields of activity.

BSCSIF in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), since 1st of August, 2013
The Economic and Social Council at its Substantive Session of July 2013 adopted the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations to grant Special consultative status to BSCSIF. It was informed with the letter, that includes the privileges and benefits, responsibilities and obligations that the special consultative status with ECOSOC confers on the BSCSIF within the NGOs Branch, duly represented by Mr. Andrei Abramov, Chief, NGO Branch/ UNDESA, as well as the definition of the consultative status that our organization will be required to meet under this relationship: ”Consultative status for an organization enables it to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways.”
Eight years of successful activities of the International Fund, led to expansion of the ranks of the BSCSIF to which joined the intellectuals, famous and talented people from countries such as, for example, Estonia, South Africa, China, Switzerland, Greece, India, Montenegro.
Thus, the activities of the International Fund geographically moved beyond the regions of the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. This process, against the background of increasing security threats and challenges in the world, even more actualized the significance and responsibility of the International Fund.
From this perspective the members agreed in the previous sessions of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors upon the idea of changing the name of the BSCSIF in order to fully reflect the current objective reality. On this basis, in accordance with its Chapter, goals and objectives of the International Fund, BSCSIF, with due respect to its history and maintaining its continuity, has been renamed to «International Foundation for Sustainable Peace and Development» (IFSPD).
